Here at FPD International in Yokohama, 3D is the hot topic, with more than 15 companies showing various 3D display technologies. Most of the major display suppliers are demonstrating 3D stereoscopic displays at this show.
- Samsung Electronics has three large size 3D display demonstrations, from 23″ to 55″.
- Samsung Mobile Display showed several 3D AMOLEDs, including a 30″; however it’s not stable, so SMD only showed it for a few hours and then moved it to another location.
- Panasonic has a 3D PDP home theater.
- TMD showed 3D OCB (optically compensated bend) LCD technology and backlight directional 3D technology, ranging from 3″ to 32″.
- LG Display, CMO, AUO, CPT, Sharp, JVC, Hyundai and NEC are all showing multiple types of 3D technologies from 3″ to 60″.
- Pure Depth and NewSight are focusing on auto-stereoscopic 3D, using no glasses.
- 3M demonstrated its 3D backlight film, which was announced last week.
- Although it is working on 3D LCD with active shutter for TV, Sony has no demo here.
As can be seen in this summary, autostereoscopic is the most prevalent 3D display type, but several companies are showing multiple technologies.
