Black Friday: Lines at Walmart Outpace Other Retailers

The next pre-opening visit was to Walmart at 4:45 a.m. No line outside, per their new policy of leaving the store open for 24 hours to avoid stampede at opening. The full parking lot was a good indicator. Inside, the line behind the cash registers was astounding. Easily two to three times the traffic of any other retailer. The inside line snaked throughout the store and through each department. It was actually quite confusing and arguments were common.
As for TVs in the shopping carts, by a wide margin the Emerson 32″ for $247 was the most popular model at opening. Two of them in a shopping cart was a common sight. I probably counted more than 100 in that store alone. Also popular were 32″ Samsung and Sony TVs. A Magnavox Blu-ray player for under $100 was heavily bulk stacked in the aisles, and common in shopping carts.
