[...] On several panels at CES 2012, speakers mentioned Vizio as that rarity: a CE company that makes money.

I think this is a great move, though how they implement will be interesting. I've had many conversations where I've shared the concept of Amazon opening a bookstore which is really a social gathering hole with a coffee shop, bakery, juice bar and other small delights with many places for people to sit and read individually as well as group rooms for book clubs or group reading. eBooks could be browsed on your Kindle and if you didn't have your own Kindle Amazon would have rentals for your visit, like $1 to rent. The eBooks would be accessed from the cloud and the stores would have high speed access. Like the book, click to buy using 1-click and the eBook gets downloaded to ones Kindle, no cashier needed. Want to buy your own Kindle and not rent? Buy it there or order online through the store kiosk (yes, they could do it at home but capture the order right when the emotional connection is highest; they may change their mind one they leave and drive home. It could include physical magazines and books as well, it would be interesting to see the user behavior when they have to option of both. I could definitely see myself spending time in a place like this.

Well this is good news…for Verizon customers. I feel a little bitter because I have to work today to support a new product launching from my employer Dish, so I can’t watch it on the 30 TVs they have here because I don’t have a TV in my office. I usually watch TV on my phone though with the Sling Adapter from Dish. Live TV is my favorite part so I could do that or go to NBC and watch there. Oh, I could use my Galaxy Tab on the desk and still see my screen too while I’m working. Well, I did say I have to work, but I didn’t say how hard!

This is great to see everyone getting in this game, but with Microsoft introducing these features in Windows Vista using an OCUR, it is hardly "year one" for the deployment of home media gateways.

What about cables? The last I heard, Apple is still the only provider of T-bolt cables at $50.00 a pop. Intel's "success" will depend on the pricing and availability of the peripherals and accessories. Otherwise, it's a wasted port on the notebook, Ultrabook, whatever.

DISH made a huge splash this year at CES, this was one of
the most exciting exhibitions that I’ve watched in a while. The Hopper and the
Joeys, of course I mean the receivers and not the marsupial that was on stage,
are some of the best innovations that in the market for DVRs. I’ve been working
with the PrimeTime Anytime feature quite a bit at work at DISH, I love being
able to record up to 6 shows at once. One of the best perks of this is simple
the fact that the prime time shows will be stored on my DVR for a rolling 8
days, like an on demand service of such.
